Vegan Jalapeno Poppers

Vegan Jalapeno Poppers

Lots of cheese with a little bit of heat. These vegan jalapeno poppers are the perfect finger food for game night or anytime.

With the vegan cheese industry absolutely booming with cheezy, melty options, we’re able to create and recreate all the foods we loved before we gave up dairy for good. This recipe uses vegan cream cheese and colby jack shreds to pair perfectly with the heat of the baked jalapeno.

Being Vegan at a Party

Parties or social gatherings for vegans can be tricky to navigate at first. I often hear people say that the social aspect is the main reason why they wouldn’t make the switch to a vegan diet. Most people think they can’t bring anything or eat anything other than chips at a party if they’re the only vegan there.

Well there’s no reason for that! The first rule of being vegan in social situations is to look out for yourself because you can’t expect other people to accommodate for you.

That means it’s up to you to show up ready with a yummy vegan dish, not only for yourself but to show everyone else that being vegan doesn’t mean you’re limited to carrot sticks and tortilla chips!

Even if other people are hesitant to try vegan food, just seeing you eat something other than an apple will open so many more people’s eyes to the endless options we have on this lifestyle.

Because news flash – these days, you can make an incredible vegan version of literally anything!

Finger foods like these vegan jalapeno poppers can be enjoyed by everyone, vegan or not. Melted cheese and jalapenos are a classic combination, as the fat and creaminess from the cheese cuts through the heat.

Best of all, they are super easy to make.

How to Make Vegan Jalapeno Poppers

First cut your jalapenos in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Be careful! Wear gloves as the jalapeno seeds and skin can burn you even after you’ve washed your hands. Do not touch your eyes.

Next, make your cheesy filling by combining your favorite vegan cream cheese and shredded cheese with a little bit of panko bread crumbs. I used vegan colby jack, but you can also just use vegan cheddar.

Stuff your jalapenos with the vegan cheese filling and line on a baking sheet.

Finally throw those in the oven for about 10 minutes at 400F, checking to make sure they don’t burn. If you can, set to broil for an extra couple of minutes to brown the top.

Now you’re equipped for any party or gathering, and you’re sure to impress everyone with your cheesy vegan option.

Ingredients

  • 10 jalapeno peppers sliced in half and seeded
  • 1 cup vegan cream cheese
  • ½ cup shredded vegan cheese colby jack or cheddar
  • ¼ cup panko bread crumps

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Carefully slice the jalapenos lengthwise in half and scoop out all the seeds. Be sure to wear gloves or wash your hands very carefully to not harm your eyes or skin.
  • In a bowl, mix to combine the vegan cream cheese, shredded cheese, and bread crumbs. It helps if your cream cheese has been left out of the fridge for at least 10 minutes prior.
  • Using a spoon, evenly spread the cheese mixture into the hollowed out jalapenos, and line the stuffed jalapenos onto a lined baking sheet. You can also sprinkle on extra shredded cheese to melt on each jalapeno popper.
  • Bake the jalapeno poppers for 10 minutes, checking every few minutes to make sure nothing has burned. Then switch your oven to broil and broil the top to melt and brown the cheese for 1-3 minutes extra.
  • Once the jalapeno peppers have softened and the cheese has melted and browned, take the tray out of the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
